Uawanui Sustainability Project

The Uawanui Sustainability Project is a community-led initiative that aims to achieve long-term economic, environmental and social benefits. Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti and the Uawa community work with environmental scientists to explore opportunities for an integrated approach to sustainable land management and restoration across the Uawa River Catchment. Community Led Development

Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti Centre of Excellence has a Community Led Development Programme (CLDP) Partnering Agreement with The Department of Internal Affairs. This partnership is a commitment of Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti Centre of Excellence, the Uawa Community and the Department of Internal Affairs to collaborate in support of Community-led Development for Uawa within the Tairawhiti Region. Te AHikā - Our Story, Our Voice, Our Place

Te Ahikā celebrates the story of our arrival and settlement in Uawa. Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti and the Uawa Community hosted a suite of Te Ahikā commemorations and events that align with national celebrations of voyaging. These events are a symbol of heroic privilege and prestige that unite all sectors of the community through the telling of all our stories. Learn more →

Uawanui development programme

This initiative is a collaboration between the Uawanui Sustainability Project and Tipuna Tours. Our Uawanui Development Programme will support students to gain basic skills across two sectors: Horticulture (nursery training) and Maori Tourism.

Mentoring service

Mentoring | We work alongside the Ministry of Education to provide a local Mentoring Service aimed at supporting school students to successfully achieve NCEA. Our Mentoring Service is currently provided at Tolaga Bay Area School & Kahukuranui, Ngata College, Te Karaka Area School, TKKM o Horouta Wānanga and Lytton High School.

Administrative services

  • Our friendly office staff provide various administrative services to the local community i.e scanning and printing services.

  • A computer suite is located inside our Pataka with WIFI access, this is open to the public within our operating hours.

  • Meeting room spaces and hireage.
